The Army has bands.  The Navy has bands. The Air Force has bands. The Marines have bands. Even the Coast Guard has a band.

Each of the main branches has a main band, stationed in or near Washington D.C.  These bands record on a regular basis, and have since the days of John Phillip Sousa.  Many of the other service bands also record. They provide these recordings free of charge to Schools and Libraries on request, based on availability.  These recordings are not for sale.

There is a fairly simple procedure for acquiring these resources.  All you have to do is write a letter on school letterhead addressed to the Public Affairs Office of each band requesting any available recordings.  Sign the letter and have your principal countersign it.  Not all the bands require the principal's signature, but some do, and you may as well do them all the same way.  (This will also increase your principal's awareness of what you do for the school.)

It's a lot of work, but the net gain for your band is well worth the effort.  For your work you will receive dozens of CD's and tapes for your program.  These recordings include works from Grainger and Vaughn Williams to Schuman and Hindemeth and Benson.  There's even a CD from the Air Force band in Hawaii that has Don Ho singing "Tiny Bubbles."
